Sadler's Wells is to stage a new play based on the life and times of William Adams, the English maritime pilot who is believed to be the first Englishman to ever reach Japan.

Entitled Anjin: The Shogun and the English Samurai, the production runs from January 31st to February 9th 2013 and tells the story of Adams' friendship with Shogun Tokugawa, his ascent to a position of political influence and his inner conflict about where he truly belongs.

This epic tale is inspired by real events and stars Stephen Boxer and the acclaimed Japanese actor Masachika Ichimura, who head up an international cast of British and Japanese players.

Penned by Mike Poulton with Shoichiro Kawai and directed by Royal Shakespeare Company artistic director Gregory Doran, the show provides a fascinating look at a pivotal figure in history.

Those who wish to make their stay at The Montague on the Gardens Hotel as memorable as possible in the new year can take advantage of a package called A Night to Remember.

It provides luxury London hotel guests with daily English breakfasts, a bottle of Champagne, a candlelit dinner for two and a copy of Bea Tollman’s A Life in Food cookbook.
