Brits across the country will no doubt be delighted - and more than a little satisfied - at the news that London has knocked Paris off the top of the Best City list, as compiled by Anholt-GFK City Brands Index. In order to celebrate our glorious capital, we've prepared a list of highlights that should amount to any perfect day out. Book into the Montague on the Gardens hotel - located in the centre of town, you'll have easy access to all of these attractions.

Wander the South Bank

After having your complimentary breakfast for two - courtesy of the Bloomsbury Weekend package - catch a tube over to Embankment and cross the bridge to South Bank. You could go to Waterloo, but then you'd miss out on the view from the bridge, which encapsulates all the major landmarks. South Bank is always a hive of activity, with street performers and various stalls to experience. Failing that, hop on the London Eye or a tour boat for more sightseeing.

Arts and culture

Reserve a full afternoon to experience some of the arts and culture that London has to offer. The British Museum is just a stone's throw away from the Montague and always features fascinating exhibitions on everything from the ancient Egyptians to Japanese art. If you fancy venturing further afield, there are the wonders of the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum to enjoy. These offer a plethora of permanent and temporary displays between them that are great fun for the entire family to enjoy - particularly some of the stranger experiences such as the famous 'Cockroach Tour of the Science Museum'.

Markets

From the Montague, you are just a short tube ride away from some of Britain's most vibrant and exciting marketplaces. These include the world-renowned Camden Market, Borough Market and - for the Christmas period only - the special Winter Wonderland located in Hyde Park. It is often said that, between the markets of the capital, you can buy everything. We're not sure if that's true, but you can get hold of unique presents, beautiful jewellery, unusual trinkets, wonderful food and much more besides.
