Free flowing Champagne Afternoon Tea

Put a little sparkle into your Afternoon Tea. Right now at The Montague we are offering free flowing Champagne. Starting at 12.30pm on Sundays for £59.00 per person, guests will enjoy as much Champagne as they please while they relax in the conservatory with their delicious afternoon treats including sandwiches, scones, pastries and cakes.

Sabrage Afternoon Tea
Throughout 2014
Our Sabrage Afternoon Tea is certainly unique! Learn the art of sabrage - the technique for opening a Champagne bottle with a sabre, the French Army sword. The sabre glides along the body of the bottle to break the entire neck away, leaving only the base of the bottle open and thus ready to pour.

This technique became popular in France when the army of Napoleon visited many of the aristocratic domains. It was just after the French Revolution and the sabre was the weapon of choice for Napoleon's light cavalry (the Hussars). Napoleon's spectacular victories across all Europe gave them plenty of reason to celebrate. During these parties the cavalry would open the Champagne with their sabres. Napoleon is known to have said, "Champagne! In victory one deserves it; in defeat one needs it”.

We have taken an old tradition and kept it alive by becoming part of the Confrérie du Sabre d’Or, which has continued to promote this dramatic event throughout the years. First you will watch a demonstration of how to open a bottle of Champagne with a sabre, before getting the chance to try it for yourself. You will then be able to enjoy your Champagne alongside a delicious Afternoon Tea!  £99.00 per person including a sabrage certificate to show your friends and family!

London's unique alpine themed bar is back and available from 19th November. Falling snow, mulled wine, spiced cider, Winter Pimm's, Schnapps and Jägermeister all compliment our alpine food offering. What better way to celebrate the festive season that in our unique winter wonderland!

Personal Pass:
Available between 11am and 10pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm and 10pm on Sundays, the Personal Pass entitles you to one Montague Ski Lodge Experience that includes a mini turkey burger, bratwurst and deep fried camembert as well as three beverages from a choice of 12 options. £25 per person.

Group Christmas Party Pass (minimum 15 persons):
If you’re after the ultimate wintry experience you will love our Group Christmas Party Pass including a glass of mulled wine on arrival, your choice of three beverages (from our selected 12) and a Christmas themed finger buffet of mini turkey burgers, bratwurst and deep fried camembert. You will also have private hire of the Ski Lodge for a period of time. £35 per person (minimum 15 people).

Enjoy a traditional Christmas Day lunch with all your family, allowing you to relax whilst we take care of the festivities for you. You will be welcomed with a glass of mulled wine or Champagne, followed by a sumptuous 5-course Christmas banquet, a truly gourmet experience. £105.00 per person (Pre payment necessary).

A Life in Food - Bea’s Chicken Soup   
 Nowadays I refer to this as "Nana's Chicken Soup", because my grandchildren are always asking for this simple but deliciously comforting dish. It is a staple in our home, and also one of the most popular items in all of the hotels. I learned this recipe from my grandmother, and with it that the secret of great chicken soup is to use all the bones and let it cook slowly over a long period of time. Price £7

Burns' Night
January 25th 
“Flow gently, sweet Afton, among thy green braes; Flow gently, I'll sing thee a song in thy praise”. You are invited to celebrate the birthday of the most famous of all Scottish poets, Robert Burns. On this winter night, The Blue Door Bistro will feature a traditional menu, including Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. Start the night with a wee dram of Whisky with our compliments.  Price : £28.00

British Yorkshire Pudding Day
There is absolutely no way we can let all the Sunday lunches pass this week without mentioning that 1st of February, the first Sunday in month of February is National Yorkshire Pudding Day. Of course as soon as you mention Sunday and Yorkshire pudding all you can think is the very traditional Sunday roast. Trolley will be lit up with a divine T roast beef with Yorkshire pudding will be served all day. Price £20.00

Shrove Tuesday

4th February 
Whether it's the last chance to feast and celebrate before Lent, or you just love pancakes, the Montague is the perfect place to be this week. Our pancake menu has something to suit all tastes, from sweet to savoury. Join us on the day itself and who knows, you might even get to flip a pancake or two on our live station! Pancakes from £6.00

Spoil your loved one this Valentines day and give this occasion all the romance and magic that's required and desired! A 4-course candlelit dinner, commencing with a Champagne cocktail and ending with desserts to share is sure to impress your Valentine. £60.00 per person

Creative Cocktails
14th - 18th February 
Join us in the terrace bar and become your very own cocktail designer. We provide the list of ingredients, you make the cocktail. Our panel of judges will try your invention and rate it. If you create the best tasting cocktail by the end of fashion week, your recipe will go onto our menu for a month and you win cocktails for four at the Montague. Cocktails £12.00 each

A Life in Food - Rice pudding
There is nothing better than the comfort of a homemade rice pudding. Traditionally rice pudding is a dish served warm, however, whilst tweaking an old recipe I found that adding chantîlly cream and keeping the pudding chilled allowed for a richer, creamier taste. Served with salted caramel and caramelized nuts on the side to add those extra sweet and salty touches as desired. Price £7

Tutored Cigar Dinner

The Montague on the Gardens boasts one of the premier cigar havens in London, overlooking the beautiful Bedford Estate Gardens.  Our cigar dinner is a unique opportunity to experience an aficionado event. Conducted in association with our partners, Hunters & Frankau, this will be an event that no cigar lover should miss. Hunters & Frankau are the UK's leading importer and distributor of Cuban cigars. 

The evening will commence with Prosecco and canapés and features two unique cigars to taste and compare. These will be accompanied by a stunning five course tasting menu with matching wines. Places are limited for this exclusive event so early booking is advised. £140.00 per person

Irish Weekend
It is time to go green and wish 'céad míle fáilte' to your friends and colleagues. Chef Martin Halls will be preparing a traditional dish, including Irish stew and smoked salmon . All washed down with a Guinness, it's a great way to celebrate the most famous of all Saint's days!

A Life in Food - Chopped Steak
I came up with this variation many years ago, a hamburger with a little twist which we served in The Palazzo restaurant at The Towers. I've been told by meat lovers that it's a preferred way to get the full flavour of the meat, as one uses the finest sirloin or rib eye beef, hand chopped and served in the shape of a sirloin steak. It is simple and delicious. This should always be cooked in a very hot cast iron skillet in order to maintain maximum flavour.
