Near the Southernmost point of Africa lies a valley named Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) framed by mountains and within sight of the ocean, with frost free, soft, beneficial weather and the most perfect clay shale vineyard soils.

Established in 1989, Bouchard Finlayson is a boutique winery (this 125-hectare property currently has 22 hectares under vine) dedicated to making wines of outstanding quality. Located in the wine region of Walker Bay, an hour and a half from Cape Town, behind the enchanting coastal town of Hermanus.

As one of our sister properties, this estate allows us to offer you some of the finest wine the Southern Hemisphere has to offer, their elegance and flavour will certainly surprise and delight.

Peter Finlayson

Winemaker Peter Finlayson is renowned for being the South African Pinot Noir pioneer. Peter’s vast knowledge of wine and the wine industry as well as his role in putting the Walker Bay wine region on the map is well documented. Winning numerous awards both locally and internationally has entrenched his reputation as one of South Africa’s leading winemakers and viticulturists.

Wines

Blanc de Mer

A wonderful dry white blend of Weisser Rhiesling, Viognier, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Chenin Blanc. Deliciously fragrant, with an inviting easy drinking style, it is rich on the palate with a creamy elegance followed by hints of green apple and melon. Pairs beautifully with oysters, salmon and fresh line-caught fish.

Walker Bay Sauvignon Blanc

Perfect as an aperitif, this wine is minerally rich on the palate producing crisp, clear green apple and fig flavours. Works well with fish dishes, crustaceans, sushi and vegetarian cuisine.

Walker Bay Sauvignon Blanc Reserve

Discover single bottling encouraged by a fine vintage, 12% of Semillon added with a small contribution of oak and the ability to age and develop to a complex level. Experience an excellent lingering finish with ripples of mixed fruits and plum, fig and kiwi.

Sans Barrique Chardonnay

“Sans Barrique” literally means “without barrel”, which describes our unoaked, bright, fruity and lean wine with green apple and citrus flavours which are enriched by guava and honeysuckle tones. Recommended as an accompaniment to Lobster, shellfish and pasta dishes.

Crocodiles Lair/ “Kaaimangat Chardonnay”

The grapes in this award-winning wine originate in Kaaimansgat, a vineyard in the Villiersdorp Mountains and fermented in classic Burgundian fashion in small French oak barrels. It is packed with minerality, tight fruit flavours of pear, peaches and lychees resting on over-laying hints of oak and vanilla. Pairs beautifully with poultry dishes, casseroles and fish.

Crocodiles Lair/ “Kaaimangat Chardonnay” Limited Edition:
This small production led by fine vintage is an innovative blend of a classic barrel-fermented portion of Chardonnay (50%) with a fruity non-malolactic un-wooded portion (50%). The wine is broad and powerful with a firm underlying structure that allows lemon and peach flavours to emerge.

Missionvale Chardonnay

An intense and concentrated bottling, the Missionvale Chardonnay displays excellent length, honey, peach, hazelnut, fig and quince flavours. This flagship white maintains 30% best French oak with a total of seven months maturation.
Food suggestion: white meat, seafood, bouillabaisse and cheese.

Hannibal

A delicious red blend of Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo, Mourverdre, Barbera and Shiraz with smooth and firm tannins and 16 months in French Oak barrels. Discover hints of cherry, Hannibal flowers and spices. An excellent choice to accompany red meat dishes and Italian cuisine.

Galpin Peak

Inspired by both location and winemaker, this wine is a true reflection of the terroir displaying a fruity nose with aromas of raspberry, cherry, fruits of the forest and a hint of truffle. Enjoying 10 months of maturation in French oak barrels, it’s ideal to enjoy with red meat, fish, poultry, game and cheese.

Tête de Cuvée

Discover the pure aromas of raspberry, cherry, flower and spice with musky suggestions of truffle and earthiness in the multi-award winning Tete de Cuvee – a selection of our best Pinot Noir barrels. With an additional barrel maturation of 15 months in new French oak it offers great ageing potential and is perfect to drink with duck, truffle dishes and cheese.
