Russian Winter Festival this January

Once the merriment of the December Christmas period is over, January can often appear a bleak and protracted month.

Not so for guests of luxury London hotel the Montague on the Gardens, who can stir themselves out of hibernation in order to attend the fourth annual Russian Winter Festival at Trafalgar Square.

Taking place on January 13th 2008, the event emulates traditional Russian celebrations of New Year according to the Tsarist calendar.

Visitors to this free event can immerse themselves in Russian culture, while entertainment comes in the form of contemporary and traditional music.

In 2008, those attending from nearby luxury hotel the Montague on the Gardens can look forward to a performance by Russian vocalist and Russian Music Award winner Bianka, who will perform material from her new album.

Bianka's music features Russian folk melodies alongside balalaika and accordion accompaniments.

Last year the event was preceded by a life-size ice chess game between Moscow and London - which resulted in a stalemate draw - via video link in Trafalgar Square in London and Pushkin Square in Moscow.
