Event: Vaisakhi
Date: April 27th 2008

Following the success of 2007's Trafalgar Square celebration of Vaisakhi, the Sikh New Year festival, the event is to take place again in 2008 on April 27th

Guests staying at luxury London hotel the Montague on the Gardens can join the throngs who regularly attend this colourful, popular celebration; an estimated 30,000 people attended in 2007.

Vaisakhi, celebrates the birth of Sikhism in 1699. On this date, Sikhs were given a code of conduct and a distinct identity of unshorn hair, beard and a turban.

Vaisakhi in the Square has taken place in London's Trafalgar Square since 2003 and features traditional music and events in the morning followed by speeches, celebration and dancing by ladies wearing colourful traditional attire.

Sword demonstrations were once a part of the merriment however this portion has now been removed by organisers. Floral offerings still make up part of the festivities.

"Even by the eye-catching standards of other festivals from the Indian sub-continent, Vaisakhi, the Sikh New Year, is spectacularly colourful," LondonTown notes.

Guests visiting from luxury London hotel the Montague on the Gardens can be assured a warm welcome, as the event's site notes that the Sikh religion is one of the world's "most inclusive" and welcoming.
