Conservation in Focus at the British Museum

Event: Conservation in Focus at the British Museum
Date: September 11th to October 26th 2008

Ever wondered how the historical treasures on display at museums stay in such fine shape? The British Museum is offering all comers the chance to find out.

Conservation in focus, running from September 11th to October 26th, pulls back the curtain and allows the public to view the level of restoration and maintenance work that goes into preserving artifacts that are hundreds or even thousands of years old.

Onlookers can witness conservators at work, preparing objects for display and uncovering the stories behind these discoveries.

Until September 25th, the conservators will be working on Greek and Roman sculptures, after which point then will be restoring a barkcloth from Oceana. From October 13th, they will focus on an Iron Age cauldron and a medieval tile panel.

The British Museum is one of London's finest cultural attractions and is located close to The Montague on the Gardens - ideal for a sightseeing break.

A souvenir book and iPod tour of the museum are on offer at the luxury hotel
through its British Museum Break package.
