Event: Verdi Requiem
Date: January 11th until January 14th
One of the most moving pieces of music from one of the world's most acclaimed Romantic composers will be played out in the capital next month by the London Symphony Orchestra.
Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem, written in honour of the poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni, is a haunting and dramatic piece of writing which will leave the hairs on audience members' necks standing up.
Couples looking for a short romantic break can take in this wonderful example of Verdi's talent and then enjoy the comfort of a suite at the luxury London hotel the Montague on the Gardens.
By opting for the Winter Garden package, visitors can sample idyllic surroundings, a welcome cocktail on arrival, a full English breakfast each day and a two-course dinner on one evening.
Written in 1873, Requiem premiered in Milan's church of San Marco, one year after Manzoni's death.
None of its impact has been lost in the 200 or so years that have passed since then, and audiences at the Barbican Centre will feel the intensity of Verdi's writing through the work's chorus and anguished soloists.
All the skill, drama and urgency of this iconic composer will be displayed through this wonderful score, which is brimming with sorrow and loss.
