Elegy for Young Lovers at the London Coliseum

Event: Elegy for Young Lovers
Date: April 26th to May 8th

The creative ego can be ruthless and unforgiving in its quest for greatness.

It has an insatiable need to feed off all around it which only makes it hungrier.

This is especially true of Gregor Mittenhofer, a poet who spends his time in an inn nestled in the cold Austrian Alps.

He is not there for the alcohol or to enjoy the company of others.

Rather, he is there because his creative ego demands that he manipulate the poor, unfortunate souls staring into their beer wondering why life had treated them so cruelly.

Feeding off the misery of the woman who lost her husband to the mountains and others provides the inspiration he needs to pen his poems.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to WH Auden and Chester Kallman's Elegy for Young Lovers, a witty expose of the creative ego and the lengths those who possess it will go to in order to keep it alive.

Set to music by Werner Henze, this is the third instalment of the partnership between the English National Opera and the Young Vic.

With Fiona Shaw directing this 20th-century masterpiece, theatre lovers are sure to love every minute of it, just as they will the delights of the luxury London hotel the Montague on the Gardens.

Those who book the Get More From Your Stay package can enjoy a bottle of Champagne on arrival, traditional afternoon tea for two, a two-course table d'hote dinner for two, tickets to an exhibition at the British Museum or a late checkout until 18:00 GMT on the final day.
