If you do prefer to go further afield, here are some of our favourite places to dine:
Red Fort
Dean Street
This very special restaurant has survived in London’s culinary heartland Soho for 18 years. Head chef Mohammed Rais, is the inheritor of a 300-year-old culinary tradition of Mughul court cooking.
If you’re adventurous when it comes to eating and fancy being treated like Mughul royalty for the night, head straight for the Red Fort, there’s no competition.
Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill
Swallow Street
Now in its ninetieth years, Bentley’s first opened its doors in 1916. Celebrity Chef, Richard Corrigan bought Bentley’s in 1995 and following a sensitive refurbishment that kept much of the original arts and craft flavour, Bentley’s once again opened its doors to great critical acclaim serving oysters, fish and seafood in much the same way it has since 1916.
Bentley’s has its own bakery and patisserie and sources all its ingredients from some of the best producers in the business. Deliveries arrive fresh in the kitchen every day.
The Chicago Rib Shack is back as part of London life. The place has been lovingly restored and parts of it, such as the original Rib Shack metal sign, are still in use today. The light fittings are reclaimed from Smithfield Meat Market along with the meat hooks used to hang the pictures. The food is prepared using the original 25-year-old recipes and the meat is sourced from animals living on free-range farms. For families there is a great kids menu, which they can colour in as well. A definite must for your trip to London.
Tom Aikens Restaurant
An elegant, Michelin-starred restaurant – a firm favourite with celebrities and well-heeled locals.
A perfect place to enjoy a little part-time luxury - only the finest ingredients are used in an exquisite menu of full-flavoured French dishes. The charming sommelier will guide you through the wine list, which features excellent wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy as well as some interesting New World options.
Tom’s Kitchen
In contrast to Tom Aikens Restaurant this all-day brasserie serves Anglo-French dishes, executed perfectly by Tom's head chef, Ollie Couillaud - the simple decor only further emphasises that the accent here is on straightforward, delicious food.
Bellamy's Restaurant
Established in 2004, Bellamy's offers a classic, simple, French Brasserie style menu.
The wine list is exclusively French with strong representation from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone.
Bellamy's is a little piece of France in the middle of London - there is also a shop and an Oyster Bar.
The Montague on the Gardens - Al Fresco Cigar Lounge
