The Montague on the Gardens

Make the most of summer in the British capital and enjoy a delicious al fresco brunch. A buzzing, cosmopolitan city, London is home to plenty of scenic al fresco spots where you can sit back, Mimosa in hand, and watch the world bustle by. Be transported to a tropical beach at The Montague on the Gardens’ Beach Bar, discover a secret courtyard in St. James’s or enjoy a Cuban-inspired brunch overlooking Regent’s Canal. Here’s our pick of the best places to enjoy an al fresco brunch in London.

Brunch on the Beach

A new addition to The Montague’s popular Beach Bar, Brunch on the Beach means guests can make the most of the hotel’s sun drenched pop-up all day long. Available on weekends in time slots between 11am—1pm or 1:30pm—3:30pm, celebrate the summer season with a seriously tasty brunch in the beach bar’s tropical surroundings. Guests will be handed a coconut on arrival and provided with unlimited refills of Mimosa, Bloody Mary or a tropically themed Beach Bar Special such as Sex on the Beach, Pina Colada or Vodka Melon Cooler. Enjoy full access to the Beach Bar as you tuck into a menu that includes seasonal favourites like black pudding scotch egg, avocado and smoked salmon, mini chicken and bacon burgers and fried camembert with cranberry sauce. Round off your meal with the ultimate childhood favourite treat, an ice cream cone.

Rotunda

Positioned on the banks of Regent’s Canal, there are few nicer places to enjoy a leisurely weekend brunch during the summer than Rotunda’s waterside terrace. This year, the restaurant is taking its inspiration from Cuba and is serving up a very special Rum Garden brunch. Surrounded by brightly coloured blooms designed to evoke the vibrant atmosphere of Cuba, diners can enjoy two hours of unlimited rum punch cocktails as well as a hearty brunch menu. Keep it simple with an exemplary full English or embrace the theme with the buttermilk pancakes, served with banana plantain and rum treacle.

The Modern Pantry

Famous for its fantastic brunch menu, The Modern Pantry has the added benefit of an outdoor terrace during the summer months. Located in St John’s Square in fashionable Clerkenwell, the weekend brunch is a globally inspired affair. Arrive early as tables outside are non reservable, and expect flavourful dishes including poached eggs with yuzu hollandaise and Kashmiri masala marinated pulled pork, a sugar cured prawn omelette with smoked chilli sambal or coconut and cassava waffles. As you bask in the afternoon sun, sip on a yuzu-limoncello Bellini, rose mojito or refreshing jasmine and mint iced tea.

Heddon Street Kitchen

Located in the heart of Soho, Heddon Street Kitchen is an excellent choice for those who want to enjoy an al fresco brunch in the centre London. Equipped with a spacious terrace, visit between 10am—1pm on weekends to enjoy the brunch menu. The smashed avocado on quinoa sourdough with poached eggs, vine tomato chutney and feta is a healthy and flavoursome start to the day. Virtuous diners can accompany their meal with a cucumber, ginger, apple and orange juice whilst others will want to take full advantage of the excellent brunch cocktails, which include the Rose & Tonic, a revitalising mix of Belsazar rose vermouth, Fever Tree Tonic and pink grapefruit.

 Boulestin

Something of an insider secret, the elegant Boulestin restaurant on St. James’ has its own hidden courtyard dining area. An oasis of tranquillity in the midst of central London, the courtyard was the site of the last pistol duel ever fought in England and is also still fitted with its original Victorian gas lamps. Brunch is available on Saturdays from 10.30am–4.30pm and the extensive menu includes everything from wholesome smoothies to breakfast burritos and Boulestin’s signature French-style dishes. The poached salmon Nicoise with braised lettuce and a tomato and anchovy fondue is a must-try, as is the restaurant’s indulgent confit de canard.
